Yellow goodness..for the magpie..

Angela, over at Cottage Magpie, wants everyone to show a little "yellow love" this month. So, what the heck, Im in! Here, as you can see, is my yellow kitchen.
And here, above my stove top. Ive used that textured wallpaper that you paint (kind of looks like old cieling tiles) The walls in the home when we purchased it, were much to bad to strip. I wasnt, or bob wasnt, about to strip many many layers of old wallpaper, so.. This was a great remedy! Turned out lovely, too!
Outside my frontdoor, ready to meet you!
My newest yellow addition, and more previously blogged about here, my girls bedroom and this very awesome yellow table in my livingroom.
Then theres here..Yes, I love yellow..

Then, one of my favorite photos of the spring, Easter goodness. I am, among other things, a polka dot fanatic!

Thanks Miss Magpie for the chance to let my yellow goodness shine today. Got yellow? Go see Angela, and give us some LOOOVE!! shes going to link everyone together, sounds like fun, huh?

Thanks, Angela..kisses from the beach-

And a good time was had by all....

We had another "work weekend" at the beach.. Planted some adorable window boxes my dad made with an excellent assistant, and lots and lots of other random house renovations just too boring to post about.
On Sunday, we had suprise guests!!! YAY, other people.. My sister and her 3 adorables came out and we piled everyone into the back of the truck and headed down to the beach. It was just gorgeous out. NO WIND!! yay, this makes for much happier campfires on the beach.
Fire pit manager Bob Villa had a great time bossing his little peeps to get firewood, more more more until we had a great old driftwood fire. As you can see, we had hot dogs..
and these, theres nothin better than smores on the beach, (unless you have sandy hands) then they are a little on the gritty side, but then again, so are we.

Here is the orange sweatshirted fabiosio doing yet another amazing trick..one that is most primal in any man. FIE FIE FIE..
Here he is playing jedi master, although you cannot see who he is schooling, oh yes its his biggest boy and nephew..No one will ever beat Jedi MasterVilla, dont they know?? Young boys, always wanting to beat their father.. he he he..
Here are the mini peeps doing their best Lewis and Clark pose. Oh yes, we love the Lewis and Clark in this neck of the woods..
Smallest girl in the crowd had a great time, not so great after we had to brush that windblown hairdo, however.. Isnt she the cutest?
Middle child never fails to discover something great at the beach, and strike a beautiful pose with those beautiful baby blues, too.
Then theres the eldest, crazy funny, we had a wonderful time this weekend, the first overnighter at the beach for the family (Id like to thank The walmart for the excellent blow up matresses) I really wouldnt have made it without you..

And lastly, here I am, painted jeans flip flops and poorly pedicured toes, just for you. enjoying myself, with the ones I love the most!!

Hope you had a great weekend..

Birthday girl..and her mini peeps..

Happy Birthday, you beautiful gal!! This is my mom, who celebrated 64 years yesterday. These are her sweet grandchildren. Minus one,Ive got my three, my brother has his 3 and my sister has her 3. We are not giving any more grandchildren to my mother.whew. Although, when you (sarah) post photos of your darling peeps, it makes me want more.

We had a fun birthday party. Ate too many tacos and had a great birthday cake. I used Bristols ballerina cake topper she sent me from her new store (check it out, too cute)

As some or most of you might know, my parents (mom) own a huge fabulous interiors store downtown, in a historic Masonic Temple buildingthey purchased almost 15 years ago called Grand Heron, WE all suffered horrible when the storm of December 2007 hit here in Washington State, but none more tragically than the shop. This place is her life..Anyway, finally, after more than 4 months of dis-service and piss poor customer service, and alot- and I mean ALOT of just plain NO service, my mom got a check, the first of a few, from her insurance company for her beloved Grand Heron building.

Here she is with it. We joked and had alot of fun with this, my dad even wrapped it up in a birthday present for her, and brought over champagne to swig and toast..Finally, finally, FINALLY we are getting somewhere! New building, new GRand Heron-- here we come... She deserves it. Im so happy that the stress is starting to come off of her. (and dad) its been horrible. She dosent handle it well. BUT NOT YESTERDAY!!!

Yay!! Happy Birthday Mom, Im happy, extatic and overwhelmed for you.. FINALLY.
What a great Birthday day. I love ya!

Tomorrow..100 blog giveaway..check me out.

Taking a break...and making a cake!

Since we left the beach sooo late the other night (see photo) and everyone (self and BV) were exhausted from all the big work from this last week, we decided to stay home on Sunday- and rest... haha.. If there is one thing Mr and Mrs Villa do not know, its rest. whats that??

Here you see Bob in the garden doing a little cleaning up. The "P" on his hat IS for perfect. Not Pirates, as when he was the coach of his boys baseball team, as everyone would suspect. He is most awesome. Notice he is doing the work as I fart around taking photos. "Honey, does Sarah, your blog girlfriend like bleeding heart?" I dunno. But she loves hosta.. Notice bob being attentive to all of my make believe girlfriends, as much as his wife..
Here is my make believe girlfriends booty from my garden. Left to right. A couple of Peony, a huge clump of Hosta in need of division, next is my very favorite Solomon Seal, and some lovely clumps of bright green Ladys Mantle (sarah, they go great with hosta. Awesome texture together..) Dont thank me, thank Bob, for I was toooo busy to really dig around much.. Someone had to be weed bucket dumper and trampoline safety patrol manager.. Plus, I already had paint under the nails, so there wasnt any room for DIRT, too..SHEESH!!! Anyway, Bob is taking the box of florabunda to the post office with him today Sarah, so in 3 to 5 days..expect a parcel of dirt from the Villas!! With our love..
Then, because its my dear and most excellent Moms Birthday, today--I came in and made one of these for her party tonight. At 5:30 18 guests, including the Royal Highness herself will enter through the doors of the Villa home for a taco fest. (I know, not very birthday-ish) BUT I wanted my brother and sister to help me, so this is what we came up with..It will be a fun evening celebrating the Matriarch of our family..
Heres the ganached chocolate heaven.. HAPPIEST BIRTHDAY TO MY MOTHER.. I LOVE YOU!!!

This is a test...I repeat, only a test...beeeeeeeep!

Hello Folksies.. Here are a few things about the beach.. Its flat here, SEA LEVEL..that means we are always at the ready for one thing..TSUNAMI!!!!whoa dude, get your surfboard..See this telephone pole with the 7 oval orbs atop it? This here is a WARNING SIREN.. and let me tell you..its loud. L O U D..And if its the real deal, well. You better GIT. Hot foot it up to higher ground..PRONTO.
We also have these neat signs everywhere at the beach. Just in case you dont know where to go, follow the arrow on theblue signs..Lucky for me, the coastal nest is high atop the bluff at Pacific Beach. Also lucky for me, we are very close to the Naval Center, not like the navy will be able to protect my family from a ginormous wave from Japan or Russia or out there in the Pacific somewhere.. Im not making light..Because my house -house- home that we live in, is in the flood plain. sooo, this means we need to take it serious. Serious is the test, once a month on the first Monday, its such a ominous eerie sound. I HATE IT. but, it is good to be prepared. That being said

Here is the last photo of the day, before the sun went completely down. Gorgeous out here, weather or not "the big one" ever does come, its a beautiful place. My beach.I love it here.

out of the box...

Hello..Heres some more kitchen photos.. We came this close, and I mean VERY..to installing dark dark hardwood out at the beach house. Theres is something about the dark coffee bean floor that I adore. I love the way it makes the walls look like they reach to the sky, thus enhancing a very low cieling. I also love the shine AND that not alot of people would step out of the box to install such a dark color in their homes. NOT MEEE!!!
But, common sense prevailed and we decided, for resale factor, that dark wouldnt be a good selling point out at the beach. Point taken, Mr Villa...I hate it when your right.

Now here is a chandelier!! What in the world, I love love love it!! again, with the unexpected. How about the curtains? With that brown upholstery on the chairs, again. ADORE...
In the first photo, you can see the built ins at the far end of the room. Here is a close up, can you stand it? The putty color on the cabinet really makes the white pottery pop. POP!!! love the moo cow creamer and butter dish.

I am very close to 100 posts, check me out sooooon. I think this is 96. @ 100 I will be hosting some sort of goofy, wonderful, inspiring, comical, decorative give away, of some sort or another. Not sure of what it will be, yet..You all are so great, you deserve a prize..
all photos from design inc.

Have a great Sunday :)

a Trip to Sewards Nursery...

Hello sweetie pies, I hope all are having a lovely week. This is one of my very favorite places to go for plants, AND guess what, its on the way to the beach, lets stop in shall we?

This is Sewards Nursery, shes on Ocean Beach Road, you can stop and get a gorgeous hanging basket for yourself when you come on out to the beach this summer. This is the Fushcia house. As you can see, her fushcia baskets are TO DIE FOR. Her and her mama, yes her mama, grow all of the fushcias from starts themselves. This Green house is todiefor!! She was telling us today how her hubby has to chase all of the humming birds out at the end of the day, Could you imagine?
Heres another green house. I am so ready for spring and summer to be here. So, instead of paint and drywall mud under my nails, guess what it will be...you guessed it, SARAH!! DIRT!! (no, Im not forgetting the hosta, either) email me, so I get your addy to send them toyou.. (up there in the right hand corner, by the lovely photo of self..)
can you even stand these photos? My mom and dad were fushcia fanatics when we were growing up, she always would buy one by the name of Lisa, isnt she a sweet mommy?
This is the one that Mac Daddy bought his Mrs V. (this is my other pet name for BV) sorry, if I confused you..
stupendious!! I do have to forewarn you if you are going to make the trip out here from Minnesota for a hanging basket, she does TONS of presales, they have only been open a week and there are soooo many sold signs on most of her baskets, she sells alot to certain vacation resorts on the beach, and sooo many people come back year after year for her plantings. Her father plants all of the baskets in such a wide variety of beautiful flowers. Total heaven to the gardener..

See ya there..maybe we could grab a coffee after your done visiting, oh, wait..we are in the middle of nowhere..let me know, I can fill the thermos..

have a great day!!!

A little kitchen porn for your morn..

This home is GORGEOUS!! LOVE the warmness of the whole entire space, the softness of all the furniture, and the colors on the wall are to die for.The windows, dont get me going on the windows.. Its like all enveloping, wouldnt you say?

I crave the wood on the island, people freak out on wood, for its bacteria factor, but I would jump at the chance to have a huge island covered in an awesome hardwood. Chopping block type. If you think about it, you always use a cutting board, right? So why not indulge your inner lumberjack and try a wood island?

The only thing Im not crazy about in this photo is the 2 chandeliers, that arent really on the same wave length. I do like both of them, but I think that they, if this would be my house, would have to have a little more cohesiveness (thats kind of matching, Marty) Believe me, Im not a matchy matchy person, but I would like to see them be at least out of the same materials. If you look closely, ALL of the lighting should be a little more-again not matchy, but COHESIVE..Do you think Im wrong? Im dying to know what you think, dying I tell ya...

When we finish our Beach project, we will finish the "home project" which is kitchen/mudroom/bath(almost complete)redo. Like I said yesterday, Id die and go to heaven for Carerra, I would love and adore to incorporate our island in wood. We have a huge old shuffleboard I would love to use. You know, its all about recycling, and being green!

Hope everyone is well and good. We are going to pick up preschooler and head out the beach way..BV is driving, he took my license away- and my keys. Hes such a daddy.
(kidding, kidding) Love to all!---please dont speed today, its not good for you..

Grays Harbor County's Finest??

One would have to admit it. When your speeding and one gets pulled over- and one gets asked-- "Ma'am, do you know how fast you were going?" Uhhh..no. "Ma'am, do you know the speed limit here, on this road?" Uhhh..50? "Ma'am, I clocked you at 66 rounding that corner back there." Uhh..Im so sorry.. "Ma'am, please stay in your vehicle, I will be right with you." What? Do I look like a psychotic crack head? Im covered in "cozy cottage" behr paint, I have my gorgeous, well mannered 11 year old son with me,we are BOTH buckled up, we are driving a white Chrysler town and country MINIVAN-OFFICER..Im not "packing" forchrissakes!!!!Why dont you want me to get out? You dont want to dance? What?.. Why does one aways get the shaft? Why does ones husband, you know the man, ALWAYS get out of it, and one always GETS IT!!FARK FARK FARK!!

The most excruciating thing about it is that in exactly 7 days I would have had a clean record. (driving record, you bottom drawer thinkers) They still have me for solicitation..(kidding, kidding) Im depressed just thinking about what this will entail for the old Farmers Insurance policy..

Another horrible thing is that the littles were driving home with their dad and passed me --certain I would be hauled off to jail- Cried the rest of the way home.Big boy was with me, calling his dad. VERY concerned. What a shining example I put out there for my children. Lesson Learned, people..Dont call the nice police men or sherrif, or state patrol men "thefuzz" gets the little people all worked up..Sheesh.

16 miles over the limit will get you a ticket for $175.Grays Harbor County, gotta love it..

So, when you all come out to visit me at the beach, or come out to see the coastal nest. Keep that foot contained.Lucky for YOU, I had my camera, so I captured the special moment, for posterity. Arent you happy?

Busted.Buster...grrr
