green acres....

Remember when I spoke of

Well, we, I mean my husband fantastico, remedied that this weekend..
We, I mean he, also made room for an awesome tree swing, soon to be installed, here. this GiGanTiC cedar tree lives over us in our back yard. She keeps us shady on hot days, and a little nervous on the windy events around here. If you live somewhere near the great PNW, you know what I mean. Sometimes I fool with the notion of having her cut down. She is so overwhelming and well, BIG. But I will give her a chance to play with my kids a while. I really dont often admire her choice of friends who hang with ol Miss Cedar. The raccoons are an awful bunch. We think we have them shooshed away, and havent seen them all year, and TOLD her she better not have them over again, or else..
we also did a little bed clearing here. I am seeing white hydrangea, boxwood and hosta..those awesome huge verigated leaf'd ones. Simple, but awesome. Anyone else have a good idea? let me know! Its dappled sunlight.. is there a better hydrangea that grows in shade? Oh, and the rocks will be out. They my friends have the worst of the worst over..ALL THE TIME.
The slugs. bastards, all of them.
oy.

An overwhelming problem

Here we are, at the lovely Coastal Nest estate. As you can see, I have a gigantic tree in my front yard. I love this tree, dont get me wrong, but, shes starting to encroach on the whole front!

We thinned her out the first spring we moved in, but I am wondering if this is really an option I should look at again. I cringe at cutting it down, but you can hardly see my beautiful house anymore.

suggestions? anyone...anyone....Buehler?!

Coastal Nest Gardens...kinda...

Hello there! Wanna come outside with me?
Okay...its a little cool this morning, but eh..if you live in the great Northwest, fuggetaboudit..
your use to it by now..
This here is my yard..
for the birds...

for the lady of the house, me..my fave, a good old fashion bleeding heart..

then theres another love..helleborous..Hmmm, did I spell that right? Also the ever fabulous and always showy hosta, which we have quite a few varieties...so EASY to grow, especially since they are so prolific around here with all our ""moisture and shade..""
OY... the SLUGS LOVE EM..
that's so not such a great thing, but..slugs..give em a little salt
they will be slime quicker than you can whistle your favorite tune..
I know, don't hate me..i kill a slug now and then...so not PC of me, eh?
(bwaaa ha ha ha ha)

If I didn't, these here little nubs of glory would just be...nubs eaten by slugs..

Ill be out here today..
Ive got a mulch pile calling my name....

and theres nothing my little green friends like more than

DA mulch..

stop by if your in the area..

maybe I have a shovel or a spade for ya..
and after that, who knows..
Its the weekend, peeps..
can you dig it??

Asian Pear Harvest

This, dear readers, is a few photos from a year ago..Unfortunately the asian pears on our trees were tasteless, bland, mealy and just downright, well un interesting. So guess what happened..
We decided to take them to the Farmers Market here in our little town..a giant truckload of asian pears. and I mean the Villamobile was FULL..Arent they just gorgeous?
Isnt he just gorgeous? Paula, dont answer that..you little..
They photographed so well, but even a good photo only goes skin deep..
sorry you were so bland, I could have canned you and passed you out to all my coastal nest readers for a very nice home made suprise. But then, you wouldnt be reading this now..
On account on I would be blamed for being a bad cook..which I am not..
bye bye tasteless pear.. your beauty is only skin deep.
Unlike my tasteful readers..

Lets take a walk in MY yard, shall we?

Good morning!
hey, its just beautiful outside right now, its still relatively early, the kids are asleep and the yard looks great from where Im sitting, see?
Let go outside, shall we?
PLEASE remember, I am a newbie to this house, only 2 years so theres not alot of ME in the garden, yettttt..Here is Ma Maison.. we have lots of lawn and gorgeous mature trees.
I planted this boxwood hedge last fall- cannot wait for a few years for it to grow in like that chick and dude that down the street (parents house!)
We also planted those little cypress flanking the large window in front, the deer seem to love it. They will be coming out, soooon.
BobVilla built the fence, ect. Lovely, eh?
We also thinned out the tree in front so you could see the house more. Lovely wisteria growing up against the house. Not yet much going on there..
Gorgeous, my very favorite on the property, weeping birch tree.
More green lawn and mature trees
ect..

I love all the green, dont you. cant wait for it to warm up!!
have a great day, off to the new shop to unload more boxes.

a Trip to Sewards Nursery...

Hello sweetie pies, I hope all are having a lovely week. This is one of my very favorite places to go for plants, AND guess what, its on the way to the beach, lets stop in shall we?

This is Sewards Nursery, shes on Ocean Beach Road, you can stop and get a gorgeous hanging basket for yourself when you come on out to the beach this summer. This is the Fushcia house. As you can see, her fushcia baskets are TO DIE FOR. Her and her mama, yes her mama, grow all of the fushcias from starts themselves. This Green house is todiefor!! She was telling us today how her hubby has to chase all of the humming birds out at the end of the day, Could you imagine?
Heres another green house. I am so ready for spring and summer to be here. So, instead of paint and drywall mud under my nails, guess what it will be...you guessed it, SARAH!! DIRT!! (no, Im not forgetting the hosta, either) email me, so I get your addy to send them toyou.. (up there in the right hand corner, by the lovely photo of self..)
can you even stand these photos? My mom and dad were fushcia fanatics when we were growing up, she always would buy one by the name of Lisa, isnt she a sweet mommy?
This is the one that Mac Daddy bought his Mrs V. (this is my other pet name for BV) sorry, if I confused you..
stupendious!! I do have to forewarn you if you are going to make the trip out here from Minnesota for a hanging basket, she does TONS of presales, they have only been open a week and there are soooo many sold signs on most of her baskets, she sells alot to certain vacation resorts on the beach, and sooo many people come back year after year for her plantings. Her father plants all of the baskets in such a wide variety of beautiful flowers. Total heaven to the gardener..

See ya there..maybe we could grab a coffee after your done visiting, oh, wait..we are in the middle of nowhere..let me know, I can fill the thermos..

have a great day!!!
