When a precious girl turns 4

Pink pink pink...
how come every little girl is so fond of pink?
My girl, as it would seem, is so devoted she can hardly stand herself.
Her mama, well.....not so much. But I let the girl have her way, most of the time..
Shes had a great birthday this week.
wanna take a peek?

We got in a few "spontaneous" shots prior to our family showing up..Shes the light of my life, this little one..my 40Th birthday surprise from my darling husband..
a-hem...nuff said..All the little darling wanted was "a cupcakemaka mama"
a what???
cupcakemaka!!!
okay..okay!
Here she is..giving it the ol eyeball..

Here she and her brother are..the next day
Mama is not completely sold on the "cupcakemaka" But what the hell, you only turn 4 once, and anyway my buddy Martha (who I am going to actually hook up with next week)
got her girl an easy bake oven, so..I figure I'm in good company, right? right..

Here are the lovely little packages of highly processed cupcakemaka ingredients..

~~~~~::::YUCK::::~~~~~
she
LOVES
it..
Turns out that the whole cupcake is made in the
MICROWAVE...
the whole thing is ~the fwosting..
FWOSTING MAMA!!
it takes an expert eye..look at her..
The next Martha Stewart and her cupcake.
which, to me, looks a little like a
MUFFIN
add sprinkles to the horribly processed and highly sweetened ..oh, and so VERY
PINK fwosting..
VOILA!!
pink cupcake heaven..
Happy Birthday my little sweetie pie
4 never looked so good.
I'm so glad your my little brown eyed baby, my little snuggle bug and angel from heaven. To where I would go..there and back, for a cupcakemaka..
xoxoxo
mama.
Im at Gingers house!
Ginger Barbers house.
Totally to die for!
(In my book anyway..)
My friend Joni, over at Cote de Texas, has just done a great post about one of Houston's top interior designers. Gingers moving!
Guess what? This is our chance to take a peek into how the other half lives. Suprisingly simplistic, rustic-ish..oh, and so very very..how shall I say...
ME???
Wanna take a lookey?
Lets go..
the very unassuming front. Don't you adore it?Here is the living room..Kitchenanother view..lord..could you die and go to heaven? Me? Oh, yesssssHere's the open airy great room. Girls, notice that exposed beam..ay yay yay!!Here's where the girl sleeps.
Can you say..ahhhhhh.
If your interested in reading a little more detailed article about Ms Barber, well, get yourself over to cote de texas, Joni is the total best.
Shes a great teacher, shes got a way with words beyond what you will find here.
Do you adore this home as I do, or is it just a Lisa thing??
Have a great weekend!
xoxo
The case for creme..or white, or beige...AGAIN
I know...
I got nothin.
Nada.
Zilch...
'cept maybe a few photos
One could live on a few photos..
Did I ever tell you how much I lust after exposed beams? Oh, yeah..I forgot. Sorry.
This fireplace makes me...uh...tingly..
How about plantation shutters...again, sorry.
simplistic white, beige and natural neutral...
and this awesome X on the wall? Just what do you suppose its made out of?
I know, I got nothin..
January blahs..all my enthusiasm went out the window yesterday, the inauguration hangover, I guess.
What do you know??
How are ya?
The days of Change are coming, people!!
I cannot wait to watch all the pomp and circumstance today.
If its one thing I am, its patriotic.
Inauguration 2009
~Obama style~
The eyes of the world are upon us.
The hope of the USA is strong.
...Republican or Democrat...
I am hopeful for President Obama
I think we all need to be.
dropcloth curtains...a tutorial, of sorts..
Once you have decided that you need a new look and don't want to spend a fortune on formal "draperies"--who can afford them anyway? Also, who would want those perfectly pleated, so uptight things hanging around your house?
Make your way over to Home depot..eww, I know. Just go, first measure the width of "said window" you will be covering. Make mental note of width you ll need.
Once you have found your parking stall at the great orange box, make you way to the paint section and find the canvas drop cloths. You could ask for help, but...they are waaaay beyond helping (at my HD, anyway)
Here is what you'll probably find. Select a size that will work for you. Now dash to the check out..No ones there? I know the feeling, use the self check out, its much speedier, and WAAAAY more efficient.
Before you go home, stop at the Walmarts and gityerself..sorry...let me rephrase this.
While your out, stop by the grocery and find the least expensive fabric softener and dryer sheets. Sale stuff. You'll be using alot.
Now that your home, wash drop cloth in hot water, use tons of that cheap fabric softener, do this a few times, the more the better, at least 2 or 3.
Dry dry dry with about 1/4Th of the dryer sheets.
now you will have to iron it a little bit. You still want it to look like linen, so no starching..
Measure that window again, cut the material, hem and hang!! Note to anyone who cares, I could have used 2 panels on each side, you know, to make it more billowy, but I was on the budget train when I made these.
Voila!!
and if I didn't do well enough with the typed instructions the Coastal Nest has preformed a video for you viewing pleasure, below.
don't laugh too much. I am no Martha, Stewart that is...not Ziemer..(I wish)
If you have questions, comments or suggestions, besides how to get my wild children to quiet down while their mommy plays HG TV, let me know.
Otherwise..lets see your finished product! These panels cost me about $14.99 each, the rod and the hangers, well, they broke the bank, but at least I wasn't paying 29.99 a yard!
Yay for the Coastal Nest..
I should star in my own DIY..No?
NO!!
:)
Up on the house top..reindeer...wait..what???
Guess whats going on at our house!!
Finally, remember LAST DECEMBER???
We had massive roof damage, and we were insured with FARMERS Insurance, people pleeeeeese..
WEll, they tried to write me a check for $113 for my roof damage.
$$$113 dollars!!
guess what, the coastal nest would not settle for that.
no way.. I have been a thorn in their side EVER since they did their trick of
"pulling wool over eyes" routine..
do not settle for less than you are owed people..
do NOT settle.
after months and months..
and over a year..
and hiring an independant insurance adjuster..
we were due what was owed to us.
finally..
Insurance companies, especially the one mentioned here..
do not work in your favor.
DO NOT TRUST THEM!!
I feel finally vindicated
a judgement was ruled in favor
in favor..
of the coastal nest!!
it was a long hard haul. Finally its getting taken care of.
I have severed my ties with Farmers insurance, and now am with
State Farm.
I am sure we will have a good relationship.
They will take excellent care of us and never work against their insureds the way we were worked over by Farmers..right mark??
I have never seen harder workers in my life. Its definately a job I would not care to do. The roof is soooo steep, they have to be in harnesses and roped off, so they dont FALL off.
thank you
AA roofing!
a job well done, well almost done.
WHY..Why.... why???!!!!
I am a little bit irritated.
teensy eentsy...
why??
tell me..just what are we going to look to for inspiration??
OURSELVES??
I was thinking.
MOURNING, actually..
about my long lost COTTAGE LIVING..now I get this email..
we girlfriends are really going to have to kick it up a notch, be better photographers, better decorators, better inspirerers..
we are all we've got!
chalk it up to the age of....aquarius..A-QUarius...
(excuse me..carried away there..)
A long lost Aberdeen..
Hey, Would you like to set out on a little tour, of sorts?
Let me show you a little piece of forgotten Aberdeen History..As I was taking these photos, all I could think about were ghost hunters. I was kinda freaked out, but knew that my Daddy was up there checking on the roof, so, no un-dead could REALLY get me..He would hear me scream and come and scare the vapory apparitions away and let me finish my photo shoot. --ha ha, like I am any kind of a photographer.. anyhoo..lets go. I took this photo of this blue eyed ghost through a very dirty window, you know, to document the girl..just in case I went through a vortex, or into the 4Th dimension with the vapory apparitions..gorgeous wallpaper, it almost looked stenciled..
Very old sofa..
room after room of old office space.
Martha, this is how I want you to do your kitchen tile, exactly..except you will keep the tile on the walllllll. Everything old is new again, isnt it funny how this type of subway tile is so in vogue, again.
All these lovely panneled walls, and the tarrazo flooring. gorgeous, and very dusty with years and years of grime and grit. Just look at how beautiful and shiney these fabulous walls are. The wood is in pristine shape. Still.
a beautifully, artfully cast vintage water radiator, on its side, no less.
a very well used broom
lovely old office with awesome transome windows and great gold leaf lettering on the door.
stenciled accents in one office, great old lighting fixture.
this little teeny sink was in a little teeny closet, the door to the closet was about 5 feet tall, the sink was mounted about 3 feet off the floor. Its amazing how small the average human was 100 years ago. My 6 ft 8 brother would have been considered a giant back then.
forgotten fixture
another random photo..
I hope you enjoyed the tour. I am sorry to say I didnt see any ghostly apparations. Well, not sorry. Cool old place, eh? Who would have ever thought..
