Coastal Nest...decorates

The chief cook and bottle washer at the coastal nest (me, mommy) went shopping today.

Found this adorable sweet sassy sexy curvy table for my nest.

Perfect for my living room, as it was lacking a table for the end of the sofa. The height is absolutely right on for the room. My sofas are tall armed, so this fits-exactly.

I adore how curvy it is, also there is a bottom shelf that is cained (or caned) which gives it extra texture, and you know how I feel about texture..

I threw a few of my favorite treasures on top, shells old finial post tops more shells, a few white votives in small glass holders, and my very very favorite photo of my little Ryan,yes, at the beach. A great find. Dont you think?

Decorate today-- it'll make you feel better..

Coastal Nest....decorates..

Ive decided that its high time to get the spring out around here. There isnt any blue sky out today, and I am sick and tired of not seeing any. We are so ready for spring its been a long winter, hasnt it?..

So, because I know you wanted to see what I was up to, here you go..Spring has sprung at the coastal nest.. here..

and here...
My favorite teeny tiny little brown transferware square plates(?) with all my lucky numbers from an old game..and last but not least my cherished little "M" found on ebay.. Button jars in the back are a local find.. $5 a jar..not too bad!
Girls are always so intrigued about the wallpaper in my kitchen, bought it on ebay, its just like fake tin ceiling, non pasted wallpaper. Worth its weight in gold to me, as there were lots of flaws to cover up here..My favorite timeworks clock..
Oh, have I ever told you I have an affinity for white plates in the vintage fashion? Well, ya!! I definately do. SEE??? This is just a teeny tiny smathering of my obsession.

Anyway, the spring is starting to make its way..I for one am looking out the window...waiting~ are you?

Martha Martha Martha...

You know, I love her- shes so crafty and knows her way around a kitchen, But I would love to have a huge bag, or better yet-- a cart and about 1 hour to gather as much stuff as i could take from here. Shes got the best taste, ever- That Martha!!!

I wonder how much moo-la is accumulated in just this one room, or shall I say, warehouse. She spoke of her "prop room" today, saying shes been collecting for a long time, since she started the catering business. I could only imagine all of the fabulous, gorgeous and absolutely stupendous items that are in here. Oh Martha, just give me a few minutes...PLEEEZE!!!

A little beach roaming..

We went down to the beach today, it was just beautiful, so we loaded up the kiddos and away we went. Took the kite, no reason though, no wind--whatsoever.
Finn found some awesome rocks.

An awesome little sandcastle.. It was brisk (about 50) but gorgeous!!
A phenominal view from my favorite place..
A house I have loved since I was a teen. Its perched right in the perfect location with enough height to really have a spectacular view and the trees, I love and adore the windswept trees around this place..you can barely see the sand over there on the right, but let me tell you, the above photo (above the house) is what they see everyday. OOOhhmmm. Yoga with me now...

What did you do today?

Coastal Nest Cooks...Fried Chicken

My kids, above all other dinner, will SCARF this up. I had to take a piece off of Ryans plate because poor Daddy (BV) was only going to have 2 pieces to eat- and after a long day hanging siding at the coastal nest, well, he needed more than that!! Sheesh..
Simple recipe..as you can see- above we have...Costco boneless skinless chicken breasts (love these!) 4 eggs-needing to be beat.. salt pepper and flour. I only and always put my flour in a paper sack, so easy and not messy clean up. And Im down with that, girls..
Step one.. Cut the breasts into 4 pieces, I usually use 4 breasts, and an egg for each breast.
I almost always do this while the chicken is still near frozen, this flash frozen chicken is awesome because it seems to defrost very quickly.
Step 2 dredge all chicken strips into the flour, then into the scrambled eggs.
Step 3 salt and pepper those bad boys--alot..
Step 4 heat up some oil about 1/2 inch in your pan.
put them in, not crowding, until golden brown. They will NOT be done on the inside, but outside, lovely golden brown...MMMMM

Like that up there, before turning... I then bake these little golden nuggets for about 15-20 minutes on 400, or until they reach 170 degrees.

When I have it, I add a little parmesan to the tops before they go in the oven..MMMMM

Then theres the easy, really easy salad. Spinach in the box from Safeway organic section, parmesan cheese, a few crutons, and the asian salad dressing from the Pampered Chef salad dressing holder maker thingy.. (love that thing..)

Add the staple of the coastal nest, APPLESAUCE, and a nice big glass of milk~VOILA~

Dinner is served. I am not kidding, in about 45 minutes..

Kids, come eat!!!

(Let me know what you think..)

xo xo

Crab-a-laba-ding-dong...or pure crab heaven

Welcome to BobVillas mouth..

oh, and this....

We all toasted the great crab fishermen of the Pacific Northwest, here in Westport.
Then it was down to to the business at hand. CRAB..
BobVilla loves, adores and has a real thing going with crab.. Here is my man doing his best John Travolta strut.Handsome devil, isnt he..Going for round 2Heres the ever beautiful and wonderful mother of mine..Oh,my..Suellen looks like shes having a few beers..We just bought that cute bracelet shes got on last weekend. Remember, when we were at the beach? Well, we did a little shopping, too. She is seen here doing what she loves, eating crab and talking...
Here is a photo of other crab lovers, Dags on the left and Debbie on the right. They are definately in Mr and Mrs Villas list of people who love CRAB..(drinking)
This is how we cut teeth here on the coast.. ADORABLE, eh?Since I have been so busy documenting the evenings events I really have not gotten down to the reality of why we are here. So, I am going to put my camera down and have a few (many) bites of crab, and a few (many) drinks of my beer..
And, by the way, make myself one bad ass crab cocktail...can you taste it? You know, you could have come! (Zuddy, check it out..are you a leg man?)

MMMMmmmmmm.. I am getting full..
oh, but not BV...he is in HOG heaven..

Here, again the lovely and talented (maybe a little tipsy) Vanna White, showing off her daughters new bag, isnt it adorable? Just my style. I love the new "spring" bag..

Yes, we came, we ate (oh, yes, did we eat) and then we left. Not reducing our carbon footprint one bit, as my mom (dad) drives this beautifully large rig. Her car, she loves to roll, my mom.

Hope you enjoyed the trip!

Good Morning America!

All I can say this morning is...

WOW!
We were up early here at the Coastal Nest so we got to take in an absolute gorgeous sunrise, man oh man. This although, when living on the coast, is not a good sign. Red skies at night, sailors delight. Red skies in the morning, sailors take warning.Hmmm, we will have to wait and see.
The weatherman does not hint to anything but sunshine, yay! I am SURE that spring will come early this year, Bob Villa said so, and you know he is the one that knows...everything.

Crab feed is today. We will be taking some fun photos of BobVilla eating lots of crab. this is going to be a fun day.. Just me and my man and a few hundred people, drinking beer and eating crab.Mmmm. My parents will be going with us for more fun (designated driver) yay..I will report back tomorrow.

~~~~~~
Another thing is,
I miss these guys!
Jerry, Georgie boy the whole gang. I hear that Jerry is going Scientologist. Hmmm..
(not that theres anything wrong with that!)
Randomness, pure randomness. Sorry.
by the way, thanks gals for your nice comments about my Missy.
Happy Birthday, up there
Melissa Ann, where should I start? At the end? At the beginning? Does it really matter, nope..
This is a photo of my very VERY best friend, first cousin and a really big part of me that is gone, forever.
The last day I saw her was September 29th 2001, her 2 children in tow. She was leaving the shop and just as she did everyday, said she would see me later..Later...
My girl, died Sunday September 30th 2001 in the morning, from a blood clot to her heart.
She was 36. She just dropped dead on her kitchen floor. She had, just 3 months prior, given birth to her beautiful baby girl Erin. Also at home was her little twin-look alike son Ty, who had just turned 2.
So, shes gone, left me standing here. All alone, without her.. I know shes not coming back, I just wish I could talk to her once in a while. See those big dark brown eyes, her wonderful full pouty lips. I can still see her face like it was yesterday. I miss her so much. Im just so sure that she misses me too. So full of factual advice, her contageous laughter, her dry dry sense of humor, her love of life. Her big bossy ways.
God, well, I really get pissed at him when I think about it. What was he thinking? Really, She has 2 small small children, and a hubby, just beside himself. Not to mention ALL that loved her dearly. Not to mention ME! I am so selfish, I want her back for me.
Today is your birthday, my best friend, gone to, well, I really dont know. All I know is that there isnt a day that goes by that I dont think about you and wonder how I am going to get along another day, another year, the rest of my life.. without hearing your voice, or seeing your face.
I miss you :(
xoxoxo
your best friend, 4ever-
My Weekend..at the beach
Hello and Happy Monday to everyone in blogland.. As you can see, We, eh, well, BobVilla and the helper were hard at work this weekend, building a little deck off of the coastal nest. These French Doors lead into the first bedroom, which is very small, but adorable with peaked roof and lots of light. This is bedroom is where you can see the blue pacific, so having the deck this high will also be benefical for attracting the same kind of view outside. Its a small view, but hey, a view is a view, right?? Isnt BV a handsome gent? I love it when he is all construction-y.. This is the beautiful new front door. I adore the hardware I picked out..Uh oh, I see a partial of self, and hood. Theres BVs truck..
Now, here we are, my Mom and Dad came out to the beach today, for what reason? See up in the sky? Its gorgeous beautiful blue sky!! The light, it burns!!!! It was 60 degrees out here at Pacific Beach this weekend. Spring is coming girls, its going to be early, too. BobVilla said so. I believe everything he says, so.. there.
Anyway, back to my mommy..She and dad came out, because BV asked my dad to help him electrify the new hot water heater, one of those continuous hot water jobs, and the bathroom fan. So dad was on the job today as well. So, mom and I decided to wander over to "SEABROOK" the new coastal town on the washington coast. Oh my, its some kind of place (seabrookwa.com) dont drink the juice there though, its bound to cost you about $600k for a house here, with no view of the water(ocean), just lots of fantastic neighborhoods and quaint little houses. I do secretly want to move here and start a flourishing coastal interior shop, but could never afford it.
This here is the stain color that we are going to put on the coastal nest. I love this green stain on this house so much. I think it will be smashing!! Like??Do not you absolutely adore the shell walks? YEs, cest ci bon! (this is nice, in french)
Oh, lookie here, its my little brother, out working at Seabrook, Christopher. He is a very tall boy. 6ft8. A house painter, house flipper, ect by trade. He is a product of this little red headed woman next to him. Our mother. So, thought this was a good time to snap a photo of the two. If you can see, I also gave him MY lunch, you know, because I am a good sister like that. By the way, it was a very fabulous meatloaf sandwich, with mustard, mayo and horseradish. Yes, he thanked me, and we went onward.
This was my weekend Sunday, at the beach. Progressing as it will. We are hoping that the coastal nest will be on the market in mid March. Keep your fingers crossed.
What did you do this weekend?
Ship Shape
Hello girlfriends, I trust everyone had a lovely Valentines with the special ones in your lives. We did, here. Love is definately in the air.
Now, This here, this home, definately is LOVE to me. This easy kind of decorating, light coastal colors- tons and tons of natural beautiful light painting everything it touches with warm glow.
This is the upper loft, its directly above the sitting room in the photos below. I would most likely, put a couple of overstuffed upholstered pieces here with the ottoman, instead of those chairs. Just for the comfort level, throw your leg over the chair, relax!
]
Do you like the look of the exposed beam in a house? To me, that would be the #1 thing I could request, if, and I said if, BV and I ever built, you know- a whole "new" house. #2 would be lots of fantastic doors and windows with tons of light coming in. I got off track for a minute, BV and I always have this conversation about the exposed beam. Insulation? Whats up with that? Where is it? OR...is the exposed beam a "false"exposed beam? We are just not sure...Anyone? Bueler? Bueler?....
HELLLLOOOOOOooo, gorgeous! This kitchen is so simplistic and perfect! Do you not adore how the dishes are stored in what looks like a sideboard, instead of wall hanging cabinets. LOVE IT!
Now, what girl wouldnt think it would be pretty swanky to cook her man a meal to die for on this lovely range, not to mention that scrolly fabulous custom cut front for the stove alcove is both glamorous and whimsical. This is BOSS.(tome)
What do you think of the view from here? This home is really very simplistic and open. Its a 2 bedroom with the bedrooms on either side of the loft. Through the porthole inside the alcove for the stove is the staircase to upstairs, and to the right is the pantry, I love the way they have the fridge in there!
My Dream on the coast. Comment away, I love to hear what you think! Come on, you can do it..
Here we are, gals
I was wondering if you felt like taking a trip..........
Here -I was, ya, out on the end of this beach walk. Yes, very nice. I agree...(ocean roaring, surf spraying, smell the salt air..oooooohhmmmm..) Yoga with me everyone...
This is a place about 20 minutes from my house. There are about 4 houses built out on this parcel of glorious coastline. The beaches here are almost remote. The awesome thing is, about South Beach is that the dunes are very close to the sea.
Remember how I said I was all about texture? Well this is it. The mellow color and feel of the rushing sea grass blowing, then out to that wonderful foamy white wall of life ebbing and flowing. AWESOME. I have always lived near the ocean, I hear that there are people that have never even seen it. That is very WILD to me.
These are the interiors that my moms girlfriend Janet has taken out to this "vacation retreat." The furniture came from her place of employ, she wanted the special extra added touch to this place, so she called my mom..I just went along for the ride Actually.
As I look at this first photo of the sofa, theres nothing in that shot from my Grand Heron. Nothing in this bathroom sink shot either, well maybe the white candlesticks. Thats it. The beautiful sunburst mirror above that dresser came from us. Dont those little dinky lamps look awful. We nixied those. AS IF!
Clock in the Kitchen is from us, and
That is it.
Mostly our items were in the bedrooms and in spots that I guess I didnt get photos of.
Anyway, this is what you can get for $1M out here. The location is to die for, but.. I just am not a modern gal. I love cottages, and old shacks with history and style from the passed. These new vessel sinks and the lithium lights strung on tiny little wire, well, they just arent me. So, ready for a getaway?
