Before and After.. Then there was a bathroom!!

Here is our back entry "mudroom" (area for lack of a better word,) as we purchased the house 2 years ago. On the very left, in front of that beautiful "orange" formica topped bank of drawers, is the entry from the garage, which you cannot see. The sauna straight ahead. The heat source in our old house is radiant heat water filled radiators- cozy, but very hard to move. This will be the tricky part for the bathroom, that radiator. A door out to the patio on the right, and where the washer and dryer should be just beyond the utility sink. Isnt it just AWFUL, besides being very un-userfriendly. We never sauna, its full of boxes yet to be unpacked from our move. The door is going to get taken out and moved to the kitchen for easier access to the patio.
Sauna is gone, dear hubby found a nice spot for a window, which was covered up by the "sauna people" the radiator is in that wall to the right, perfect spot for it. Tub and shower is on the left of dear hubs and toilet just on the other side of the radiator wall. Looking good Daddy!!
Ta-da!! Although there are a few things we need to get finished, mostly the flooring and a nice linen closet (opposite the vanity, there) I am thrilled on how this little renovation has turned out.It has added a ton of re-sellability(as if Id ever move again) and I absolutely crave the nice natural light that comes in through the new window.
We added a little wall heater, for comfort. When we turn it on, which is rarely, it gives the most delightful warmth to that toilet! goodness sakes, luxurious, I feel like Ms Trump, heated toilet.- ha ha. I love that light flowing in- Pacific Northwesters can never have too much sunlight.
Here is the vanity I chose, Its kind of a large one, but it fits the space well- has lots of storage for tub toys, toilet paper, tooth brushes, towels ect. One project down(almost) and more in the wings. Next stop- the laundry-mudroom! Get your tools ready daddy- Ive got the plans in my head :)

What do you think?

The princess and the "Big Girl Bedroom"

Here is my latest addition to the coastal nest, my little sweetie pies room. She will only be 3 in January, now that I look at the photos, this room might be a tad bit old for her. I couldnt wait for morning for good daylight pictures. Probably should have.

She will not be sleeping in this bedroom as of yet. She likes our bed much to much to be wanting to sleep in this old room.

Hmmm, maybe this could be MY room!

I love a soft yellow in bedrooms. So lovely to wake up in the morning, even if it is pouring rain.

The wainscotted paneling at Home Depot is the best! I love it and have added alot of it in the coastal nest.

I also have had this darling little white distressed curio for a lot of years, decided to get it out of the "garage" (shop, overstock, storage) and dust her off and let her be loved once again. You cannot really see what is in it, darling tea set, small peter rabbit series with white doggie book ends and a really fabulous _R_ I found in my travels. I loved the way it turned out.

Reas bedside table is covered in a very old circular matelesse table cloth I picked up for a pittance on ebay even before she was born. I believe it was to go under tablecloths for a nice cushion (mom clued me in on that one) She said it was very elegant to be able to rest your wrists on the edges of the dining table and feel a little bit of fluffiness, heavens dont bruise the wrists!!

The photos really didnt turn out that well, just wanted to get them out here so you could see what I have been up to.

Except for this one here,My little dolly!! Take care everyone.

Thanks for stopping by!!

My coastal nest

Here are a few photos of what is home to us. My living room. that huge candleabra is one of my very favorite pieces.
My mantle runneth over. I think I need to edit, now that I see the photos.
"My" side of the bed, when I get the chance. Seems as though theres always a little one crawling in at least 3 nights a week. What about your house?
This is where I spend most of my time. Its either cleaning up or daydreaming out the window.

I am home today with a very "out of whack" shoulder from the beach cottage weekend. It was my job to cut down all of the rotten wood we have gutted out from the house and start a burn pile, since it was overcast and drizzly we can finally have a fire. Needless to say, I am waiting for the 3:oo appt for the chiropractor. A good cracking will be in order, and a good tongue lashing on how a girl shouldnt abuse her body in such a manly way. (HAHA) My chiro is a long long time friend of the family and he certainly knows the value of a good hard days work. Anyway, I should be back to normal by the days end. Tonight after the night time ritual of the 3 child tuck in, it off to a nice hotbath soak, with an extra large glass of wine (okay, not too large. dont want to disturb the bad shoulder) and I will be back at it. See you soon!

We're Here!!!

Outside view taken from the roof so you can see how close we are to the beach. About 1/2 a block to the beach approach and then you are there. Miles and miles of pacific beach, almost at our door.
This is the cute little baby from the outside.
Another photo of the house from near the road. Its going to be a cutie pie when we are done......someday.
EEEwwww! A really filthy bathroom-alltogether.
Side shot. I adore the shutters. So NOT pacific northwest.
Well, I have finally gotten the photos of the cottage at the beach to download, not sure what was happening, but here they are. Remember to have your eyes wide open. Its a disaster, for sure-but WELL worth the $80k we paid for it.

This is the front porch, which will be coming off very shortly. Cottage is only roughly 1000 square feet.
This is the side yard, yes very very dinky. We are thinking of putting a small very low deck in this area. Behind that lovely flowering bush there is the bunk house. This was an addition in the early 50s. 2 nice size bedrooms. We are going to put a pair of french doors coming out to the deck from the front bedroom.
Dont let the mold, mildew, water damage and general really really REALLY bad disrepair make you look away. It really has good bones (rotton as they may be) This is the living room in its pepto bismal color. Hard to believe someone lived in these conditions.
This is the bedroom that you can see from the outside shot of the bunk house. The window there will be replaced by a french door.
The door on the left goes out to the back yard carport area. the door to the right is the way to the bunk house. so gross. This is the dining room for lack of a better word. I think it will be more of a common area once we are done. Interesting, huh? What do you think of our project?

Is anybody out there even reading this??

I am so new at this, I am not sure that my blog is even being read. Or maybe its because I am not posting it right. Anyway, if you have any pointers on how to shoot me in the right direction to people that have my same interests, I would be more than happy to hear how this really all works. Many thanks- if your reading :}

to the beach

We have purchased a real "fixer upper" out at the beach this summer. These are a few of the photos of the beautiful drive. I am going to try to post progress, as slow as it might be. If you are interested. I absolutely cannot wait to get to the decorating, although boring things like roof and foundation work will come first. zzzz. Hubby insists, and I know he is right.

The Red Barn Farm usually has horses a plenty out with young cowgirls tending to them. Not today though, I wonder where they are hiding.

The river photo (these photos were taken going 50 mph, remember) is a very nice river to go floating down in the summertime.

One of my favorite things, the old school house is the photo taken through the truck windows, again going 50 or so mph. This old building has always been intriguing to me even when I was small. I am not sure who owns it now. Obviously not a school anymore. Wouldnt it make a wonderful home? I will try and get more photos of it when the dear hubby isnt in such a rush to get to the cottage.

The first peak at the Pacific as we round the corner to the cottage. I love that shot.

Okay, one more day...............

Well, it was much to nice of a day to go to the mall and try and find a boring old pair of runners for my boys so that they could start their schooling in the proper foot attire this year. Off to the lake we went- suits, water wings, back packs full of pb&js and towels. As I told you earlier, putter offer. Today was beautiful and warm and we had a ball. Although the water is only measuring at 67 degrees, we splashed around, went tubing and swam our hineys off. Good bye, summer! Thanks for one last hurrah!
