A new island and a great find from the sea...

Hi everyone! I hope very much that you all had an excellent weekend. We were a busy 5-some, to say the least. Friday after work we headed out to the beach to take advantage of a great "sunny" weekend..well.. "sunny" with a side of fog, is more like it..
oy..
It was great, if it was foggy for ten minutes, the next ten were sunny..you know, the onshore flow, well it was alive and well out at Pacific Beach this weekend..No worries, we had a great time.
My sweet father made me a kitchen island last week for the Coastal Nest, it turned out, shall I say-puuuuurfectly. Hes so awesome..Thank you so much dad. Your a great man to have around!
I painted it the same color of the walls, its got one shelf inside and great Swedish finish top and interior..I embellished the brackets with some little starfish I had, so cute!!!
Now this piece of wood we found last year on the beach..waterlogged from, well, you know..being in the SEA..Immediately when I saw it I knew what I wanted to do with it, but..some man (BV) has just tons and tons of "honey-do" projects on his ever-growing handyman list of his. So, I just put it in the garage at home for a few seasons..guess what, I found it--and grabbed it, threw it in the back of BobVilas truck and we "up-cycled" my piece of drift wood this weekend.
Not to shabby, eh?

The bar stools are a gift from a friend of mine that does repo trash-outs for a few Real Estate businesses, and banks, in town. I went over to thewalmarts and got one of those VERY inexpensive rugs that are made from, like nylon remnants..super cheap seat cover, while I was there I also picked up one of their ultra expensive 3 dollar pillows, actually I bought two, cut them down and made "cush for the tush" so, there's the newest little project.

Heres the end result!
Don't mind the bottle of wine..it was just a "prop"

Happy Monday, y'all.
what did you do this weekend?

They call it mellow yellow....

Hello and Happy Friday!!
As a few, or maybe most of you know.. Coastal Nest has been searching and searching for a color suitable for her lovely home..
I think I might have found it. My home isnt a darling little frenchy like this sweet home (estate)--GAH!!
But, its got lots of character and was built in 1927, she is a wonderful vintage English Tudor with scratch shingles and leaded windows..Ive been looking through my photos to try and find a picture to post..cant find one! But, trust me- I will go and take one and add it a bit later today for you..
Coastal Nest wants all the good advice you all can give her. The ever trusty and always foxy handyman, you know him as BV, thinks he loves it.Which, these days, is half the battle..

What do you think???

Is it the weekend yet?

SUNSHINE!!!
it makes me want to do nothing but bask in it, dip a toe in it and go for walks along the waters edge..
I believe theres only approximately 3 weeks until my sweet children are finished with school for the year..
This mama definately cannot wait.
There will be..in no particular order...
picnics, pool parties, bike riding, shell finding, barbecuing, skim boarding, trail hiking, lolly gagging, Popsicle eating, sleeping outdoors watching the shooting stars..and anything else that summer will allow~ bring it on!
Lets hear it for my favorite season..
(summer) haha--nope its, NO SCHOOL!!
yay!!
enjoy it while you can~
(because they grow like little weeds)

This old house...

The memories..

The great lady we restored..It was a beauty, as you can see. It just needed some tlc. The mouldings and the built ins..gorgeous..She was built in the day of true craftsmanship.

Every single doorknob was original, all the fixtures were original. It was a great house for the 3 of us..until..until ...

These two came along!
SURPRISE!!

The best memories were made in that house..My favorite photo of the boys..of all my photos.
Look at that little brother admiring the big..
We still have that pool, after all these years, they even swam in it this weekend.
Although the biggest boy, well..hes passed it.
That was the best house.
where wonderful memories, and a few little babies were brought home.
~
Walking down memory lane today.

We are the champions, my friends.....

So, Saturday morning the Coastal Nest crew awoke to a beautiful sunshiny day at the beach..Mommy knew that there was greatness in the air..the bacon was done to perfection, I know, Im good..the orange rolls were drizzling wonderfully..I have mentally prepared for this day for, a few minutes now..with their bellies full of a horrible sugary salty breakfast, it was time for my move....
Hey kids..lets go enter the sand castle contest!!!

maaawwwmmmmm.
finally..we got it together and away we went..

Really not the most "High Tech" sand castle, but what the hell..we were in the kiddy group..

Father-Son
getting ready to check out the competition..

farting around...Rea, look over heree....
After it was all said and done, and two hours of heavy sand castle building..
the contestants were called over to the white tent(pic above)
We won first place!
we now are the proud recipients of the green bucket, which had a nice crisp
$50 bill and some ribbons inside for the little childrens...
wonder what would have really happened it I put some thought into it!!
wonders never cease.
Add sand castle builder to the coastal nest awesomeness.
go kids!!
hope all of you mamas had a great weekend!
