I have a dream.....

I dream of this place, here on the corner in downtown Aberdeen.
I spent my days here with my adorable mom and sweet sister, toiling away, raising babies and having fun- being a merchant of finery.

Then one day, waaaay back in 2007, December, to be exact--on the 5th I think. We here on the coast in Washington State had a little storm. Winds were clocked at 120 mph(?) or, however they clock the wind..before all their instruments broke. Grays Harbor was devistated. DEVISTATED. We had a hurricane with no warning. They said it woud be windy.....This family went and got our Christmas tree that day. oy.
Anyway..that little wind devistated my beautiful Grand Heron Building. It tore the flat torch down roof COMPLETELY OFF, leaving our historical Masonic Temple building exposed to more rain and weather than I even care to imagine.

We had 10s of thousands of dollars in lost inventory...and hearts heavier than rocks. It makes me want to just cry thinking about how awful it was.
My parents carried excellent insurance on the building, but guess what, you still have to play their game, and people, I dont ever EVER want you to play that game. Insult to injury. It was very hard on my parents, especially my sweet mama.

But guess what!!!

Times, they are a changin'
My dream is getting back to that beautiful corner, I guess I should say, my families dream..
and it looks like the wheels are in motion!!

From lovliness, to lumber..just for a while.

.stay tuned, a new shopping experience, unlike anyother, is on the horizon....and yes, in
Downtown Aberdeen.

I keep saying 2010 is going to be a great one .... and here's proof! I haven't been in Aberdeen in a while, but can tell I'll need to come up soon to visit the "new" store. Will it have the same name and/or merchandise?
Hugs and glad things are getting positive!

I LOVE that store of yours. I was in town with my hubby, he had business and I got to browse the city and I found The Grand Heron and have been dreaming of going back ever since! Your Mom was so nice, it was a slow day and we just sat in some of the most gorgeous chairs and chatted away. I loved everything in there. I was truly overwhelmed that such a small little town had such a powerful store. You are lucky girl!

I feel your pain...we had this bad guy named IVAN come by for a visit back in 2004 and at the time we had three beach condos...yes three!!! The insurance guys are not my fav people...soooo hard to work with...I sure do wish that something could be done about them. Your family shop looks like my kind of place...I wish all of you the best of luck with the new one. Love the name of your blog and your blog...so I'm going to follow along with you:)

Blessings,
Linda

I know just what you mean with the insurance, I am still playing the back and forth paperwork game...while they are still hanging onto some of my money, waiting for me to prove it's mine. I am so delighted that the GH is coming back, better than ever! xo
