Totally off track today...

Well,

I am off track today, to say the least. Children are back to school, finally. Seems like sickness is everywhere, not just here in my nest, but at your house- and your house, and yeah--you, lurker youve got it, too! Strange how we all get it all at once, eh? We have been the hand sanitizing (germx) and lysol spraying (cough-cough) humidifiring (sp, or real word??) family, here. I am hopeful that the dreaded germ is gone for the season, but who really knows. A mom can only hope.

A good friend of mine, Cottage Magpie, Angela- she was telling me about this great book. 110 or so cottage ideas, a softback book from the cottage living magazine empire. Anyway, She said she got it at homedepot or lowes, well- couldnt find it anywhere, but found this awesome book about applying the designs used at these "dreamhomes" or "designer showhouses" its called Design Idea Book. HOLY COWABUNGA. I am usually not so taken aback by these places, because I do this for a living,(in no way, do I think I am a professional, or do I claim to be one on TV) and sometimes it gets a little bit snoozeville for me to see page after page of, dare I say "shabbypinkparfait" or "modernspaceloft" I do feel like I know what I am doing- and am not ashamed to say so. Oh my, Lisa, sounding pretty sure of yourself, now.. Anyway, I digress.. These photos are totally inspiring to me. I guess because its in colors I lust for.

Timeless, elegant and useful spaces that do not lend themselves to any time or place, just great design and decoration. I love the way the curtains are striped horizontally, instead of the same old vertical, also the dark furniture being the only "darkness" applied in the room. It totally keeps it informal and light, but adds a bit of formality to the space.

That kitchen is so wonderful. That oval butcher type table with that wonderful tall ottoman instead of a gigantic bar stool. So much more quaint.
Now lets have a look at that backsplash behind the sink.
H E L L O B E T T Y!!!! !!!
This is fantastic, not too, much-"my name is miss stainless" kitchen (cant stand that) just a great piece of working gal hardware. A fantastic range will do the trick quite nicely, thank you very much. ( I hope this gal cooks) I also adore that exposed gently curved raw wood beam above the range.

Just simple great useful stylish pieces, not over the top, anything, great design is timeless, I think its all in the textures, thats what makes it. Lovely.

Anyway, thought I would share.. What do YOU THERE, what do you think of this home???

I wish you a splendid evening. Tomorrow, Ms Fortner, you will be cooking up a storm with my delicious recipes fit for a king, or BobVilla, or the rugrats. Well, lets just say I am working on it..

I'm a first-timer, not a lurker, but I'm sick and up late :)! I have got to run out and buy that book right now! Dang! Lowe's is closed! As an interior designer I thought I knew about all the good books, but this one must have slipped by. I love horizontal striped drapery! I love a nook for a stove! I love a basket full of apples with green leafy stuff poking out of it! I LOVE IT ALL :)! I'll be a-waitin' at the door when they open tomorrow. Thanks for sharing.

And by the way--I love your blog! It's so much fun to find one that's witty and fun and full of all the same Cottage Living pictures I've saved--and doesn't have like 125 comments after each post that make you go "sigh". I'm sure you'll be discovered soon enough!.....

Yes, Ville Valo (lead singer from HIM) is my boyfriend, he just doesn't know it yet. My husband is aware of it also, but Ville isn't. Ha ha.

Hi! Wanted to ask if the "other" book you're looking for is called Cottage Style. They put it out annually. I just picked up the 2008 one at Costco for 30% off - if you ever head to Olympia. Anyway, TONS of cottage ideas. So fun!
