An overwhelming problem

Here we are, at the lovely Coastal Nest estate. As you can see, I have a gigantic tree in my front yard. I love this tree, dont get me wrong, but, shes starting to encroach on the whole front!

We thinned her out the first spring we moved in, but I am wondering if this is really an option I should look at again. I cringe at cutting it down, but you can hardly see my beautiful house anymore.

suggestions? anyone...anyone....Buehler?!

  1. Your tree and home are beautiful. You might want to get a tree expert in to see if he can prune it from the top and thin it out. It is hard to replace such beauty.

  2. I love the Bueller reference!! My favorite teen movie. Loving the tree, too, but that gorgeous house needs a smaller version. Maybe a dwarf variety?

  3. What if you did a major prune, but over the course of few years. Prune back a third every year and in 3 years it is back to managable.
It is a beauty of a tree, I'm with you on not wanting to cut it down.

  4. Is it possible to move it? I imagine the roots are as big as the canopy...so maybe not. We move huge 20-30 foot palms down here all the time. But they do have a small root ball. Are there any suckers you could save....and plant? Looks like you could cut it back quite severely (and carefully) to make it more of a new growth tree on an old stump. It is a beauty though...in a few more years it will tower your house...and be a non issue. maybe. kinda.

  5. A beautiful tree, a beautiful home, trim it back a bit so you can see your home in all its glory!

  6. Oh I definitely wouldn't take it down. It adds such curb appeal. Of course I'm a girl that has only lived in new neighborhoods with stick trees!

  7. Dang, I love your house.

    And your yard.

    And your shop.

But the tree....I love it, but I agree it's too big. You need a dwarf variety, don't you?

Having said that, there are worse crimes than having a too big tree in your landscaping....
